The Dallas Fuel has parted ways with Felix "xQc" Lengyel after the controversial player was issued another Overwatch League suspension for Code of Conduct violations.
Toxicity in Overwatch is one of the most pressing matters in the community of the massively popular multiplayer shooter. It is unfortunate that this toxicity was exhibited by one of the most recognizable faces in the inaugural season of the Overwatch League, but the game and the league will be better off without such antics.
Dallas Fuel Releases Felix 'xQc' Lengyel
In a statement, the Dallas Fuel announced that it is agreed to part ways with Felix Lengyel, also known as xQc who was described by the team as "one of the best Winston players in the world."
"There are few players out there who have achieved as much success in as short a time as Felix has in competitive Overwatch. Ultimately, it was in the best interest of our organization and Felix to part ways before the expiration of his contract," the team said in the statement. Lengyel's contract with the Dallas Fuel was originally intended to expire at the end of the Overwatch League's first season.
The announcement came a few days after Lengyel was suspended for the second time in the inaugural season of the Overwatch League.
Lengyel's first suspension was in January, when attacked Houston Outlaws player Austin "Muma" Wilmot on his personal stream with a homophobic slur. Lengyel has since apologized to Wilmot for the anti-gay insult, but he was already given the punishment of having to sit out the rest of Stage 1.
The recent suspension, meanwhile, was due to several disparaging statements that Lengyel made about Overwatch League players and casters. Lengyel also used an emote in "a racially disparaging manner" on the Overwatch League stream and on social media.
The punishment from the Overwatch League comes just weeks after rejoining the Dallas Fuel roster. Two days after the suspension announcement, the team announced the decision to release Lengyel.
Overwatch League Stage 2 Ongoing
Stage 1 of the Overwatch League was won by the London Spitfire, but the teams have now moved on to the next stage. One of the early highlights of Stage 2 is the signing of South Korean player Kim Se-yeon, more popularly known as Zarya master Geguri and now the first female player in the Overwatch League.
Meanwhile, the community is anticipating the pending release of Brigitte, the new Overwatch hero that will soon be added to the main game's roster.
